"All this time, I was breaking my head because it didn't make sense. It was so inconsistent with what I knew about Mav. When I found out what he had done and went to Viper, I realized he didn't understand it either. Not only was he illogical when he withdrew my application from the Academy, but his silence was also illogical. Mav is bold but not illogical. Never illogical. I thought it was about me. That he wanted to get rid of me, and he hadn't found any other way. Which is absurd because he could have told me he didn't love me. I would have accepted it. Only, he couldn't tell me that because Pete Mitchell was in love with me."
Bradley stops. He wants to punch the tombstone but settles for squeezing the neck of the bottle.
"And you knew it, right mommy?"

Please don't tell him that they will have to bury an empty coffin. Sarah and Henry couldn't stand it. He doesn't even want to think about what it would do to Viper.
"To recover...?" Captain Oxley sounds surprised for the first time. "No, Rear Admiral, sorry, I didn't speak clearly. Commander Mitchell's plane was hit by enemy fire, and he had to eject. He had time to radio his squad before being captured."
"The what?!"
His scream wakes up Sarah and Ron. He turns on the light on the other side of the bed. She leans over the beta's legs to get closer to Tom.
"What's happening?" asks the omega.
He looks at her with a fear he never expected to feel again creeping up his insides toward his throat.
"It's Mav. He's..." he focuses on the phone again. "Did you say that the Taliban has Maverick?"

"I'll let you know, it's Bradshaw-Mitchell, and," he lifts Pete into his arms. The omega lets out a slight squeal of surprise, "it's not lust. It's love."
He pushes away from the wall, turns, and looks over his shoulder at his other husband.
"Jake?"
